2019 review, a year of effort and success

by Pol Villaverde / splashapps / 22-12-2019

Doing a year review when December is almost over isn’t something specially original. But that doesn’t mean we are not going to do it because it is in fact a useful way of gaining perspective and seeing how things have gone. What’s more, doing reviewing one’s year is a basic step to think about the future, adjust the goals and find sense to what we do. So hereby we’ve condensed 2019 for splashapps.

It’s been a long path until the results we are presenting, would you like to read our story? Find out more.

How things began

The first months of the year were influenced by a peak in our Kuku Kube game installs. Also during the first half of the year, we faced the task of updating the design of several apps, which needed to be renewed. The new and attractive esthetics of Kuku Kube and Tic Tac Toe Colors caused an increase in the amount of downloads. Later on, at the beginning of summer, we published a new app at Google Play and named it SimpleTorch. It consists of an emergency flashlight that activates the phone’s flash and can emit the SOS morse code.

It was during summer when great novelties arrived, which would have a big impact on the company. Firstly, we took the decision to build a new website and buy a domain, splash-apps.com Similarly, we opened some more professional specific e-mails using the new domain. One of the most important novelties for the website was the Blog section, where we post articles on all sorts of different topics because we do make apps, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t still interested in the rest of the world, right? We’ve talked about 3D printing, about tricks to administrate an Instagram profile, about the necessary steps to open a business and many other things. The new website came along a change in our brand image: more attractive, modern and solid than the former. Despite the changes, white and blue remain to be our characteristic colors.

2019

This year’s big hit

However, all those changes where nothing compared to the achievement of a great milestone, the collaboration with a popular Instagram meme account, @Unidestroyer. With that project, we worked on the creation of the definitive “Never have I ever” classic party game. In addition, we developed and designed and developed a paid version, our first app available on the App Store for iOS devices. The process was long and implied many hours of work but we finally published both apps on September 4th 2019. It was an absolute success. In a few minutes, the website server collapsed and we appeared at the top grossing rankings both at Google Play and the App Store. Thousands of users received very positively the app and rated it with 5 stars, helping us to reach number 1 in the top sales ranking for Spain. Number 1 in Spain and top 10 in many European countries and the world.

Got an app idea? At splashapps we can turn your idea into a reality. Tell us about it and we’ll make it happen!

Since then, our activity has been centered in the preparation of app updates but the effort has been worth it, it can already be said that our app is a usual colleague for parties! Several popular Instagram Catalan instagramers mentioned the app in their stories and contributed with their own content to the app, which already has 3 unique game modes and +450 epic sentences to have fun.

Present stats and future goals

Finally, during November and December, the downloads of our first app, Tic Tac Toe Colors, skyrocketed with hundreds of daily new users. When compared to 2018, app installs have increased by 265%, due to an especially good last quarter. We’ve reached more than 67.000 installs!

As of our goals for 2020, we want to consolidate our “Never have I ever” app in Catalan as a reference in Catalonia and keep gaining new users. Also, we hope to replicate this successful model translating the app to other languages to keep growing. We have another motivating app project in mind, a capital cities quiz. Our objective is to make it as complete as possible to be able to use the structure of it to create thematic apps in very diverse fields. Lastly, we want to keep feeding our Blog with more articles like this one about very diverse and interesting topics. Let’s wrap up, then, with our best wishes for 2020 and this new decade!

It’s been a long path until the results we are presenting, would you like to read our story? Find out more.

3D printing: What even is it and (why) do we need it?

3D printing: What even is it and (why) do we need it?

by Mitja Suvajac / technology / 26-11-2019

People often ask me about my hobbies, and they are always baffled when I mention that I like 3D printing and that we have some 3D printers at home. It’s like science fiction to them, you can think of something, model it on a computer, send it to the printer and have it made in a couple (a couple is a very relative term, as there have been prints that took multiple days) of hours. It does seem like it, but it’s not, it has been a real thing for more than 40 years, but in the last 5 it has become very widespread and affordable, which is a great thing.

Have a business idea? Read the first 5 steps to succeed in business and put it to practice.

Why 3D printing is a thing

But before we get into why 3D printing is a cool thing, we must get to know what is it. The printing part of the name is really poorly chosen, just like the name imaginary numbers in maths, how can they exist, if they are imaginary? And a similar question arises here, how can you “print” a 3D object? To avoid this, the experts have come up with a word even more terrifying, “additive manufacturing” which does, in fact, describe the underlying logic, but sounds horrifying. So, additive manufacturing is a process where you make an object layer by layer until it gets its final shape.

Why is that interesting? Well for the past 150 years the standard has been taking a large chunk of material and slowly chewing away at it, either using a lathe or a mill. That technology evolved to CNCs, where the computer takes care of the precise movements, and only in the 1980s did humans come up with the idea of adding material instead of taking it away. I won’t bore you with the history of 3D printing, and will rather tell you what the situation is today. We have lots of very affordable 3D printers, some coming in at under 300$, which is quite fascinating, but why would an average person use such a machine?

3D printer

Reasons to buy a 3D printer

The first thing that comes to mind is making random toys, which is in fact what a lot of people do. But many also find better home uses for the technology, it is used a lot in DIY computers and electronic devices, for making all sorts of cases and different mechanical parts. Speaking of mechanical parts, remember the countless times you have broken the battery cover on a remote control, and then tapped it up with duck-tape. Well with a 3D printer there is no need for that because you can just print a new part. There are also other applications for 3D printing, like making houses, printing human organs, and many others, but that is another story, and also can’t be done on a 500$ machine.

Got an app idea? At splashapps we can turn your idea into a reality. Tell us about it and we’ll make it happen!

I mentioned before, that “you can just make a new part”, which has probably upset a lot of the more environmentally aware amongst you, but it shouldn’t have. 3D printing itself is the cleanest and least wasteful production technology because it uses the exact amount of material needed, and even if some print happens to fail, the plastic used can be easily recycled, because of its purity and quality. Besides that, the production series in 3D printing can be as small as 1 part, which means complete individualisation, not the hundreds of thousands of parts that are produced in a usual injection moulding series, which also brings the waste down to practically zero.

Final thoughts

With all of that in mind, I believe that 3D printing has great potential (yes, people have been saying that for 20 years now, but no one has really tried to get it popular, so I won’t listen to them complaining). I believe that a course of it should be thought in schools after all people must know how to make things if they don’t want to be dependant on others for solving any simple task they are faced with.

Take a look at our apps! From challenging games to a BMI Calculator, I bet you’ll find something you like.

About the value of numbers and a conditional celebration

About the value of numbers and a conditional celebration

by Pol Villaverde / thoughts / 01-11-2019

Nowadays many believe that we are dehumanizing society, whether it is through technology, politics or economic administration and part of this criticizm is sustained upon the perception that everything is counted with data. A good example of this are the statistics about natural disasters, terrorist attacks or refugees whose boats sink in the Mediterranean. Used to count the victims of these phenomena by tens or even hundreds, we are immune to the real damage caused and the stories behind.

It is precisely for these reason that the image of the body of Aylan in a beach became famous worldwide, because it broke radically with the dehumanization of the refugee crisis. This is the problem of the masses, we lose perspective and gain passion when we are part of them but we are terrified by their power when we look at them from the outside. Maybe if we managed to somehow connect with that passion that unites us in a soccer pitch but to do so with all human beings we would develop a fantastic empathy to resolve problems. But let’s stick to the topic, data.

Have a business idea? Read the first 5 steps to succeed in business and put it to practice.

A curious example

Numbers are expected to be objective and, indeed, they are. However, this doesn’t happen with the perspective with which we look at them. Not a long ago a piece of news claimed that a town in Catalonia had become the second richest town of Spain. So, theoretically, the average citizen of that small village was way more rich than any other point of the country. What was, then, the cause of such a sudden change in the income of the town citizens?

In fact, there was no significant increase in the earnings of the citizens. What was the true reason for the record-breaking income per capita? One person, Apparently, someone with a lot of money had decided to settle in a hose in that town and caused the unprecedented growth in the overall wealth. This is a silly yet clarifying example illustrating the previously explained idea because, as said, the average citizen income had multiplied but the town wasn’t any wealthier. Besides this curious case, the core idea of the anecdote is closely related to what we were explaining before.

To what extent is a merely quantitative analysis of things useful when it comes to determining the state of a question? No one denies the fact that an analphabetism index below 5% is and will always be better than that of an 8%, but is this really enough to state whether if a society is doing good? A reduction in the youth unemployment rate is positive but it’s not necessarily indicative of a better quality of life, it is only indicative of a greater dedication to work. What if all those work hours are at expenses of study time? What if they denote a bubble-like situation such as the one lived in the construction sector, which would leave these young men and women without future perspectives once it has exploded?

Got an app idea? At splashapps we can turn your idea into a reality. Tell us about it and we’ll make it happen!

Quantity or quality?

There are studies which try to measure the happiness index of citizens of each State by means of examining parameters such as the ones we mentioned or similar ones like the health quality and, again, income per capita. Usually the Nordic countries, ahead in terms of health systems, welfare state or educational innovation are also ahead of such rankings. That said, it is especially relevant pointing out that, simultaneously, some of these countries are also in the first positions when it comes to suicide data. It seems that we still need to perfect the systems to track happiness. Or maybe there might be certain things impossible to quantify.

Whatever the answer to that doubt is, by no means it is all about forgetting of numbers as a way of taking better decisions in a wide variety of areas, ranging all the way from politics to businesses. However, it is possible that further reflection and a rather qualitative approach is often needed.

Last month, at ‘splashapps’ we achieved 50.000 installs of our 7 apps. We’ve celebrated it but this only makes sense as long as our apps have brought something positive to the tens of thousands that have installed them. Only if our apps have enabled laughter, entertained, amused, generated friendships, helped someone to get in shape or lighten their paths, only in that case, everything will have been worth it.

We’ve achieved 50.000 installs of our apps!

We’ve achieved 50.000 installs of our apps!

by Pol Villaverde / splashapps / 12-10-2019

After almost 3 years since our first app was published, at ‘splashapps’ we have achieved 50.000 installs of our apps. The growth has been considerable and, year after year, we’ve increased the number of app installs. In fact, we have already published 7 apps among which some of the most popular ones are the collaboration with a famous Catalan meme account and “My BMI: Ideal Weight”.

Would you like to grow your own social media account? Read our article on that topic written by an expert!

How we increased app installs

These two apps have way more than 30.000 installs combined and, most importantly, their average rating for both of them is over 4,5 stars out of 5. In general, users rate our apps in a very positive manner to the point that none of our apps has a rating lower than 4,1 stars.

What’s more, the ‘splashapps’ brand new website has reached considerable audiences, with thousands of unique users coming from “Jo mai mai by @Unidestroyer” for the most part. Other significant apps are the original and fun “Kuku Kube”, with over 9.000 installs and the consistent growth of both of our versions of the classic game tic tac toe, which have 3.000 and 9.000 downloads respectively.

Final thoughts

We therefore celebrate these very positive data which shape the present and future of ‘splashapps’ and its progress. We are very grateful for the thousands of users that have trusted us and we hoped we have helped them have fun, entertain, get in shape or lighten their way with our apps. Our goal is to keep this growth in the following months keeping the same energy we had at the beginning.

7 tricks from an expert to make your Instagram account grow faster

7 tricks from an expert to make your Instagram account grow faster

by Alex Carné / social media / 10-09-2019

In this article, we’ll learn how to make your professional social media account grow by following 7 professional tricks written by an expert. Those will be insights, tips and tricks that he followed in the process of creating and managing an Instagram account called @theedmforce which is mainly focused in spreading and celebrating EDM music.

My name is Alex Carné and I’ve been managing a social media account @theedmforce for over 1,5 years now.  All of my knowledge on managing social media accounts was actually self-learnt, and I’m going to explain you very valuable tips that will make your account grow significantly faster but, most importantly, I’m giving you information that will help you grow your own community like I did.

The trick to grow your social media brand is by creating a community that hooks customers into your brand. This technique will require lots of time (around 1-2 years, from my experience), but you can accelerate the process via investing into your brand making in-app payments to promote your content so that it reaches other people. Below you will find 7 tips on how to successfully administrate a social media account in order to make it grow.

Thinking about starting a business? Read our article on the 5 basic steps to succeed in business.

#1 Don’t pay for likes/followers

10,000 fake followers will generate you less money than 1000 real ones. It is also really easy to see for young people nowadays to know when someone has fake followers. Comments from bots and a disproportionate ratio of likes per follower or comment will be enough, it’s also really easy to identify bot comments as they most of the time don’t make sense with the topic of the post and the comments are really similar.

#2 Communicate with your followers daily

Reply to their comments properly (for example, don’t put emojis when they’re asking a question), reply to their direct messages, make polls on your Instagram stories.

instagram

#3 Give them reasons to follow you

Generate your followers the need to follow you, for example: If you’re an airline company you could give monthly small discounts in flights on your Instagram stories or feed so people look at them daily. Don’t expect to receive value without giving something back. Strangers won’t give money if you ask for it, right?

#4 Stay active daily

It could be via stories or posts but make sure to put out content every single day, people won’t get hooked to your social media account if you have nothing to hook them up with.

Got an app idea? At splashapps we can turn your idea into a reality. Tell us about it and we’ll make it happen!

#5 Ask the audience what they want

Information is power! Knowing what kind of content your followers like will increase the follower per like or follower per comment ratio on your posts. This is also a really effective way of interacting with them, but keep in mind that you won’t be able to keep everyone happy when you have a large number of followers.

audience

#6 Give your brand a face

Adding the admin’s face to the brand on social media will add the brand a human element that makes it more trustworthy if you expect people to make transactions directly from social media.

#7 (Extra) Enjoy the process

Creating a community is usually a long process that needs lots of hard work, as content is expected daily by your followers and it can sometimes be a pain for the admin to edit and post videos late at night because you didn’t have time to do it earlier in the day or you just (wrongfully) postponed it.

But from my experience seeing your brand grow and having people that care about it and support it is a beautiful thing (your account ends up being like your own little baby) and it will increase your income (again, 100 loyal fans will generate more money than 1,000 strangers).

Pol Villaverde

Our story

Our story

by Pol Villaverde / about us / 01-09-2019

Today I’ll tell you a story. Once upon a time there was a young student from the city of Barcelona who, as his colleagues did, studied computer science at school and enjoyed a lot the subject. He had always felt attracted or at least somewhat curious for the world of technology, smartphones and apps because, despite not being part of this generation of children who have grown up surrounded by mobile devices, the rise in the use of such technologies accompanied him as he grew up.

Are you thinking about staring a business? Read the first 5 steps to succeed in business in our blog.

The first steps

What happened is that one day, precisely in one of those computer science lessons he liked so much, the teacher introduced his students to the field of mobile app development. Most of the boys and girls completed the tasks related to that specific part of the subject program as they usually did with the rest of school work. Some forgot about the homework, others did them on time and yet there was a third group of students who, delighted by the possibility to create apps and games themselves for their own mobile devices went a step further and introduced changes to customize and improve their apps with eye-catching features to impress their friends. The protagonist of our story was, of course, part of this third group of enthusiasts. But unlike the others, he kept that hobby of making apps even after finishing that activity in computer science.

In fact, the enthusiasm that this boy developed towards the world of apps was such that very early he started watching videos with a technological theme and when the summer came he was still creating small apps from time to time. One of them simply added up two numbers, another one had a button to change the background screen… and little by little he continued to advance in his limited knowledge to the point that during the summer vacation he marked himself the goal to create a simple tic tac toe game. This might seem an easy task but some of the functionalities such as the option to change the game’s design, a two-player mode, the sound effects or the menu design are elements with a certain degree of complexity that contribute to increase the knowledge of our protagonist when it comes to app development.

Uncertainties and decisions

However, weeks and even months passed until, as a result of efforts and self-discipline, the young boy considered the game finished. So, what’s next, you might be asking? That same question appeared in his head, which would be the next step? He had spent a lot of his time to complete that project, he had continued to work in spite of resuming the school activity and for this reason he didn’t want to simply forget something that had represented a thrilling adventure for him. He wanted more, and therefore he decided to do what he considered to be the next logical step after finishing the development of an Android app, publishing it. At this point, when Christmas arrived, he used the pause regarding academic tasks to double the efforts in his project and perfecting every single improvable aspect.

story

Finally a day arrived in which, helped by his father, he configured and opened a Google Play developer account in order to be able to share his work through Android’s official app store. The work he had to do in the days that preceded the publication was very stimulating for him: creating a website, filling the Google Play forms, coming up with a promotional text, choosing the best app screenshots and even contacting -without much success- specialized sites to get his app to the public. It was on the 26th of December 2016 that the app was definitively published in Google Play.

Now and here

The author of these lines is no other than that young boy who, now as a university student, keeps his passion for the world of apps and technology intact. I’m Pol Villaverde and since the day I published my first app, the challenges related with that project have come one after the other and today I find myself immersed in a collaboration with one of the most influential Instagram accounts in Catalan, a collaboration which aims to develop an original version in Catalan of the game “never have I ever”.

During the past few years there have been several goals and remarkable moments in the development of the company I once decided to call splashapps. One of those remarkable moments was the creation of social media accounts in platforms such as Twitter and Instagram, another of those was the publication of my second app, a game called Kuku Kube. When the moment to choose the topic of my Baccalaureate research project I had no doubts and I built my research around this field. A minimal version of tic tac toe, a Body Mass Index calculator append an app created ad hoc to improve the learning process of syllables in Catalan among children in my school were the fruits of my research project.

Later, I  made an app that turns your phone’s flash into an emergency flashlight and just some weeks ago I bought the domain splash-apps.com and created this website for the company. I am currently working in a shared project with instagrammers and I am working as well in an app that will serve as a quiz about world capitals. At the same time I am trying to revitalize this website with a blog that I hope to be active and contribute to diversify the topics related with splashapps.

Projects with future

In addition, I’m hoping to open splashapps to new ideas and proposals in the field of apps, websites, education or marketing and it is for this reason that now spashapps’ website offers a communication channel both through the contact form and the e-mail address idea@splash-apps.com By the way, at the moment there have been no economical earnings whatsoever and this is not my priority nor it was for the boy who had fun in computer science although it is true that I do not discard it as an option.

Final thoughts

The truth is that I don’t really discard anything and I am not sure about which will be the future challenges for splashapps, but what I do know is that I will do my best to be prepared.

The 4 advanced steps to start a successful business today

The 4 advanced steps to start a successful business today

by Lorena Díaz / business / 20-08-2019

There are more than 125 million small businesses in the world and the competition is increasingly high. When starting business it is of utmost importance to avoid some usual mistakes and to follow some basic guidelines to reach success. In this article divided in 2 parts, we’ll see some tips and tricks about the process of developing a business idea and these 9 steps will serve as a guide. This is part 2 of 2 articles containing the 9 basic steps to succeed in a business.

That said, let’s dive into the last 4 essential steps to start a successful business, which are some of the most basic things any entrepreneur should take into consideration when starting any kind of business regardless of the specific market he will focus on.

Would you like to start by the beginning? Read part 1 with the first 5 steps to succeed in business.

#1 Getting licenses and permits

Getting licenses and permits is a part of the process when you start your own business. You should bear in mind that the procedures to establish a company are not the same for all legal forms. In that same way, not all businesses need the same permits. It is advisable to inform yourself before everything necessary for your business if you do not want the bureaucracy to end your patience.

#2 Set up your business location

In any implementation strategy or business growth strategy, the location of a new establishment is a very important decision, in which a lot of time and energy is usually invested valuating the different options. And once again, technology can become an ally that facilitates the challenge of finding the best location in a more effective way.

Choosing a good location of the place depends on a set of factors that will also have to do with the type of product or service you offer. In addition, you will have to take into account the competition that exists in that area or even its demography depending on the target to which our product is directed.

For a shop or a company of services to individuals, the place has to be at street level and it is best to avoid stairs that are contemplated as an architectural barrier for many potential clients. Be careful with basements too, which add meters to the cost of the premises but have little real practical utility. In the case of offices or services to companies, more intermediate floors enabled as offices are of interest, but the lower floors are always more appropriate, if they are located in buildings where homes and premises are combined.

Check the visibility of your store from all possible angles and verify it at different times. Make sure there are no columns or street lamps that can hide your sign or storefront and that garbage containers have a location that does not affect your facade.

And the more free of barriers and obstacles the interior is, the easier it will be to furnish it and take full advantage of it. By the way, did you know that you can request a license to install a crosswalk near your premises or even to move it? A traffic light or a zebra crossing is always interesting for commercial stores because they involve twice the traffic of people than if it is 30 meters higher.

Got an app idea? At splashapps we can turn your idea into a reality. Tell us about it and we’ll make it happen!

#3 Getting your team ready

Getting employees is a delicate step for several reasons. For a first selection of CV, it is advisable to look closely at the latest work experiences, the type of companies in which they have worked and the tasks they performed. In the interview it will be essential to assess the attitude of the candidate, as well as their reaction with the philosophy of the company and project. These aspects will mark the difference between the candidates that meet the requirements demanded. There are several platforms that help you with the process, such as InfoJobs.

business team

Once the candidate is selected, important issues such as the salary or the schedules must be specified. It is necessary to take into account the Statute of the Workers and the specific collective agreement of the sector, where limitations of the weekly workday, regulation of the breaks or minimum wages according to the professional category can be found.

#4 Promote your small business

You already have your business, now you need to start attracting clients and customers. Social media, Internet, newspapers, radio, television and many other channels will help you attract customers and start gaining ground in the market.

At the beginning, your marketing budget may be reduced, so you must resort to creativity and planning to develop impactful low-cost strategies. There are many cases of companies that achieved wide dissemination thanks to advertising campaigns with a high level of creativity.

However, it is curious to see businesses that expect to grow without investing a single coin, remember that the marketing function is to boost sales and increase the customers of a business. Note that investing time and money in this area, will represent a clear growth of your business.

Final thoughts

With this article we’ve learnt the last 4 advanced steps to start a successful business today. Once you are done with the previous 5 essential steps, you can get the necessary licences and permits and set up your business location. Finally, if you need a team it is always a good idea to spend time in choosing the right employees and when that is solved the last step is to promote your business and reach clients. To do that you will need marketing solutions an digital skills so we invite you to read more about these topics in our blog.

There are more than 125 million small businesses in the world and the competition is increasingly high. In this article divided in 2 parts, we’ll see some tips and tricks about the process of developing a business idea and these 9 steps will serve as a guide.

An overview

It is important to bear in mind that, as we live in the digital era, in order to create a business nowadays it is no longer enough to open it and wait for customers to arrive. The competition is greater and every offline business, even a local shop, must be completed with an online version that accurately represents the values and services of that business project.

Launching a business is a process, a difficult challenge that the entrepreneur normally faces for the first time and does not know what to do and when to do it. Common errors and mistakes appear more frequently than it would be desirable but, how to avoid them?

Just because of that reason, you should consider your business as an industrial process: you start by planning, you continue by developing, then checking and finally acting in consequence. When starting a new business you should take into consideration the fact that you are already in a position of disadvantage with respect to entrepreneurs that have already created new businesses before and therefore know the process and the keys to succeed.

You have to put together a good business model. You have to choose and investigate what customers, what segments, what channels, what key alliances and what resources are currently needed and try to investigate how that might change in the medium term, and what is the main source of income that the business will have.

That said, let’s dive into the first 5 essential steps to start a successful business, which are some of the most basic things any entrepreneur should take into consideration when starting any kind of business regardless of the specific market he will focus on. This is part 1 of 2 articles containing the 9 basic steps to succeed in a business.

#1 Take time to do a complete research

If you are determined to create your own company, surely you already have a business idea. But if this is not the case and you are only determined to be an entrepreneur, this is the first step you must take. A good brainstorm or making a list of companies that we find interesting can be good starting points.

There is also the possibility of choosing as an option to start an existing business model such as a franchise. In this case, most of the work will already be done: the concept, the brand, and the operations, among many others.

For a small business to be successful, it must solve a problem, fulfil a need or provide a non-existent product. In a nutshell, you should offer something the market wants. Once you have a couple or three of interesting ideas, it is recommended to delve a little deeper into the business model: what will be our market exit strategy, potential customers, what pricing policy will be followed, what will you offer better than other companies, etc. If you already know these points, it is time to start creating a good business plan.

#2 Make a good business plan

A business plan is a tool to evaluate opportunities and define their viability but it also becomes a sort of “security mechanism” to minimise risks when crating a business. Remember that there are two common ways to fail: one is to do things without thinking and the other one is to think things without doing them. At this stage, these two mistakes are usually made and it is important not to commit them.

On the one hand, some start without a plan and on the other, some plan too much and never start. Your business plan must be simple, realistic and practical to be interesting to partners and investors. The good news is that there are different types of business plans for different types of businesses and each company can easily adapt it in the way it works better for them. In this article by Forbes you have a practical guide on How to create a business plan.

Normally, there are two types of business plans depending on the financial support a business needs. In case you need financial support, the business plan serves as a “business card” of the autonomous business project, especially for the application for grants and subsidies, where it is usually mandatory, but also for the recruitment of private investors or to obtaining a bank loan.

In case no financial support is needed, as an entrepreneur or self-employed person who promotes a business project you are the most interested in having a business plan, since through this document you will have a tool to analyse and plan your project, get to know it better, identify its strengths and weaknesses and start it with greater coherence and rigor, increasing your chances of success. It will also help you in organizing the necessary tasks.

#3 Plan your finances

By this point, you should have clearly understood all aspects of your project, and if you do not have them clear yet, I recommend you to return to points 1 and 2 or you could run the risk of poor financial planning.

There are various sources of financing for entrepreneurs, each has its pros and cons, but money should never be an obstacle to start your business. Some have enough capital to start, but others must go out to search for financing and that is where a good business plan becomes important. No one will give you money without any interests; even government entities and support programs expect your project to be convincing enough.

It is recommended that you put together the start-up cost for your business such us legal fees, equipment, licenses, inventory, etc. Last but not least, it is important to anticipate the cost that the business will have in the next 12 months. That said, those numbers combined are the initial investment you will need to make.

Your shop or small business can be a sole proprietorship, a partnership, a limited liability company (LLC) or a corporation. It is really important to choose the business structure correctly because it can impact many factors: from your business name, to your liability, to how you file your taxes. It is normal to choose an initial structure and change it as the business grows so don’t overthink, simply choose what’s right for you.

#5 Choose and register your business name

The difference between a successful businesses and what is simply “one random business” is market differentiation, and this differentiation is achieved through a series of elements such as a logo, a slogan, a name, a mission, a vision, some principles, a value proposition, etc.

Many of these elements become important aspects for a company, so you must make them unique and this way you will get the customer to remember you and prefer you among any competition. Due to that importance it would be a good idea to have professionals in design companies like Ambient Gràfic build your brand identity and logo.

The user experience is also part of the image that a customer has regarding a company or a product, and the experience includes everything; from the characteristics of your product or service to how it reaches the customer. Think about providing a positive and unique experience.

Once you have chosen a name for your business, you will need to check if it’s trademarked or currently in use and after that, you will need to register it. A sole proprietor must register their business name with either their state or county clerk. Corporations, LLCs, or limited partnerships typically register their business name when the formation paperwork is filed.
